A national iceberg lettuce recall is still active after federal health officials linked shredded iceberg lettuce served at some Taco Bell locations to a July 2026 Cyclospora outbreak.

The important update is nuance: on July 19, the Food and Drug Administration said laboratory experts re-reviewed one reported positive lettuce sample and concluded it should be treated as a false positive. FDA said there were no confirmed positive product-testing results as of that update, but the agency is still telling people not to eat recalled Taylor Farms de Mexico iceberg lettuce while the investigation continues.

Do this first

  • Check any iceberg salad or shredded lettuce in your refrigerator against the recall notice, especially Marketside 12-ounce and 24-ounce Iceberg Salad with best-if-used-by dates from July 18 to Aug. 3, 2026, and Marketside 8-ounce and 16-ounce Shredded Lettuce with dates from July 18 to Aug. 3, 2026.
  • Throw away recalled lettuce immediately. FDA says refunds are available where the product was purchased.
  • If you recently ate shredded iceberg lettuce at a restaurant, ask whether it came from Taylor Farms de Mexico. FDA says not to eat recalled lettuce at Taco Bell or other restaurants if the source is unclear.
  • Clean and sanitize refrigerator shelves, containers, cutting boards and other surfaces that touched recalled lettuce.

Who is affected

Taylor Fresh Foods said the recalled shredded iceberg product was distributed from June 29 through July 16, 2026, in 27 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

FDA says recalled Marketside products were sold at select Walmart stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Food-service products listed under brand codes including CV, JB, MARK, PK, SUB, SY and TF are also included in the company recall notice.

Symptoms to watch

Cyclospora can cause frequent diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps, bloating, gas, nausea and fatigue, according to FDA and CDC. Vomiting, body aches, headache and fever can also occur, and symptoms may go away and return.

CDC said the five-state outbreak under investigation involved more than 1,644 people who reported Taco Bell exposure in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia, with 94 hospitalizations and no reported deaths. Illness dates ranged from May 13 to July 13, 2026.

When to get help

Contact a health care provider if you develop symptoms of cyclosporiasis, especially if you ate shredded iceberg lettuce in the two weeks before getting sick. Seek care promptly for dehydration signs, severe or persistent diarrhea, or higher-risk situations involving pregnancy, older age or a weakened immune system.

The bottom line: the product-test correction matters, but it does not cancel the recall. Until FDA updates the advisory, the practical step is to check the dates, discard recalled iceberg lettuce and ask restaurants about the source before eating shredded lettuce.
