Meta made its most direct argument yet for putting powerful AI tools in more people's hands on Monday, August 10, pairing Mark Zuckerberg's new AI manifesto with the release of Muse Glimmer, an open-weight model the company says can run on consumer hardware.

The short version: Meta is trying to turn the AI safety debate away from one question, whether powerful models should be locked down, and toward another, who gets to use them if superintelligence arrives. That makes the release more than a product update. It is a policy argument, a developer pitch, and a data-center defense in one package.

In The Future is for Everyone, published on Meta's newsroom site, Zuckerberg argues that the defining questions of the AI era are who gets access to superintelligence and what it is directed toward. The most concrete product move is Muse Glimmer. Business Insider reported Monday that Meta describes Glimmer as an open-weight, agentic model small enough to run on a Mac or PC, trained through distillation from the larger Muse Spark model.
