Panasonic has recalled certain electric toaster ovens in the United States and Canada after regulators said a power-cord insulation problem can create a shock or fire hazard.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted the recall on July 16, 2026. It covers about 11,480 Panasonic NB-G200 toaster ovens sold in the United States, plus about 2,184 NB-G205 units sold in Canada.
The practical advice is simple: stop using the recalled toaster oven, unplug it, and check the model number on the product label before cooking with it again. If the appliance is in a cabinet, rental unit, office break room, dorm, or shared kitchen, tell the other people who may use it so it is not plugged back in by mistake.
Do this first
- Check the model. The U.S. recall covers Panasonic Electric Toaster Oven Model No. NB-G200. Panasonic's recall page lists the Canadian model as NB-G205.
- Unplug it now. The CPSC says consumers should stop using the recalled toaster oven immediately.
- Look for where it was bought. CPSC says the U.S. units were sold online at Amazon.com, Costco.com, Panasonic.com and other platforms from October 2024 through April 2026 for about $170.
- Request the remedy. The listed remedy is a full refund through Panasonic's recall process.
Why it was recalled
The CPSC says the power cord insulation can be insufficient because a protective fiberglass sleeve may not adequately cover it. That can create a risk of electric shock or fire.
As of the recall notice, CPSC said Panasonic had received four reports involving tripped circuit breakers or outlets and one report that a product stopped working. The agency said no fires or injuries had been reported.
That does not mean owners should keep using the toaster oven while waiting for more information. Product recalls are meant to remove risk before a defect causes a worse outcome, especially with countertop appliances that draw power near food, packaging, towels, and other kitchen materials.
How to check the label
Panasonic's notice shows the model number on a name plate label on the back of the toaster oven. The recalled U.S. unit is a stainless steel Panasonic electric toaster oven with the temperature knob located on the lower front control panel, preset cooking menus, a digital timer up to 25 minutes, and temperature settings from 250 F to 500 F.
If the label is hard to read, do not plug the appliance back in just to test it. Use a flashlight, take a phone photo of the rear label, or move the unplugged appliance to a counter where the label can be checked safely.
Where to get help
Consumers can contact Panasonic at 888-943-2391 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email Panasonic6895@sedgwick.com, or use Panasonic's online toaster oven recall page. Canadian consumers can also review the linked Health Canada recall notice.
Do not sell or give away a recalled appliance. CPSC notes that federal law prohibits selling products covered by a commission-ordered recall or a voluntary recall conducted with the agency.
