The best tracker may be the one that solves a specific problem and then stays quiet. A short list of books worth remembering is useful; a monthly quota can become an unpaid performance review. A good test is whether the system makes the next choice easier, not whether it produces a prettier graph.
A tracker is useful when it preserves curiosity: a note about why a book or film lingered can help more than a total. Once the system rewards completion speed, the unfinished difficult work starts looking like a bad statistic instead of part of the hobby.
