A streak can be motivating, but it also turns “I did not open an app yesterday” into fake failure. If the product is useful, show me progress over a month. Do not make day 48 disappear because I had the flu on day 49.

Counterpoint: the streak is the only reason I remember a language app exists. I know it is a trick, but it is a trick that gets me to practice.

That is the strongest case for it. I just want a “life happened” repair that does not conveniently cost money.

Weekly consistency is a better measure for almost everything. Daily makes sense for medication, maybe less so for reading the news.

Streaks quietly turn time zones, offline use, and sync conflicts into product rules. If missing a day can erase progress, the app needs a defensible definition of “day” across travel and multiple devices. For many products, a weekly goal is both kinder and technically more honest.
